Damian Jones has been appointed as the new General Manager
The NTFA is pleased to announce the appointment of Damian Jones in the newly created role of General Manager.
With the growth of football in the northern region including the addition of three clubs in 2025, the NTFA is now the largest competition in the state and having a fulltime General Manager will benefit all stakeholders in our great game.
The next 5 years will see enormous change occurring to the Tasmanian AFL landscape with the Devils AFL/W and VFL/W sides coming to fruition, building on the recent structural realignment to regional football and 3 Premier Leagues across the State.
The NTFA member clubs need to position themselves for these changes and the growth in participation that will occur whilst ensuring their sustainability in this changing environment. Having a General Manager on the ground to assist them to navigate these challenges will assist the clubs to grow and for the NTFA to maintain its position as the leading competition in the State.
Damian brings a wealth of experience in having been an NTFA Board Member for 14 years, overseeing football operations, policy development and general league management when holding executive positions.
His business management experience from a 17-year career in the pharmaceutical industry combined with corporate knowledge from working for Wesfarmers will ensure the NTFA has a very sustainable future.
It is an important time for football in the northern region, with ambitious growth and retention aspirations across all levels of football, from the NTJFA through to NTFA Senior’s.
Damian’s appointment as General Manager, commenced on 16th June and he will immediately focus on building club capacity, facility improvement, connections and relationships that support our NTFA clubs and their goals for strong pathways, growth, inclusion, and sustainability.
In addition to the NTFA Clubs, Damian will work closely with AFL Tasmania, the NTJFA, the Umpires Association, all levels of government and sponsors. There will also be an opportunity to work with other support organisations that will enhance the NTFA moving forward.
Upon acceptance of the role Damian said:
“I am looking forward to working in this new role as NTFA General Manager. To be able to work in an industry that you are extremely passionate about is not only exciting, but it provides an opportunity to invest quality time into the future of the competition.”
“There is no doubt it is a challenging time for football in this state and to be able to work closely with the NTFA Clubs and all other stakeholders to ensure we have a strong future will set up our region to having the strongest and largest league in Tasmania.”
NTFA President Peter Gutwein welcomed Jones’s appointment, stating:
“Damians skills and experience shone through during the recruitment process, and I know that we have selected the right person for what will be the most important role in Northern Footy over the next handful of years. I very much look forward to working with him and our clubs during this very important moment for football in Tasmania.”
